Fertilovit M Improves Sperm Head Morphology

Fertilovit®M improves not only conventional sperm parameters

but also sperm morphology

In a recent study researchers investigated the effect of Fertilovit®M not only on conventional semen parameters, but also on DNA stability. Scientists were particularly interested in so called “vacuoles” of the sperm head. These are "bubble"-like areas visible only at very high magnifications (6.000 – 12.500 fold). According to the size and number of vacuoles visible, researchers grade the sperms into three different categories: Grade one sperms have no or only very small vacuoles, grade two sperms exhibit minor vacuoles and grade three sperms have major vacuoles or other morphological disorders.

Even though it is not yet absolutely clear what these vacuoles really are and when they occur, it has unequivocally been proven that sperms exhibiting many or big vacuoles are not fit for healthy conception. An association with DNA stability and integrity is discussed in many studies.

The researchers examined sperm samples of 96 male patients attending a fertility clinic before and after taking the antioxidative preparation. They found that in addition to an increase in sperm count and motility, the average number of sperms having many or big vacuoles was significantly reduced, whereas the proportion of sperms without vacuoles or with only minor vacuoles increased.

These data have first been presented to an expert audience at a big international congress for reproductive medicine in April 2011.

There is also a considerable increase in grade two sperms.
